City Point, the new 1.8 million-square-foot mixed-use center in Brooklyn, will stage its first fashion show on Nov. 9.
The event, called Bklyn Rocks, is being coordinated by City Point, Kids Foot Locker and Haddad Brands. It will be hosted by rapper Fabolous, begin with a performance by Bobbi MacKenzie of Broadway’s “School of Rock,” twins Amira and Kayla of DJ Little Club Heads will spin live and there will be a finale by Street Justice Crew.
The fashion show will feature Converse, Jordan, Levi’s and Nike products.
“We’re going to be doing a large number of events between now and the end of the year,” said Paul Travis, managing partner of Washington Square Partners, a copartner in City Point with Acadia Realty Trust. “Our whole focus is about making City Point very community-focused.”
Travis said he saw Haddad’s “Kids Rock” fashion show during New York Fashion Week. “I thought, wouldn’t it be great to do a similar event in Brooklyn.”
City Point’s Bklyn Born collection of T-shirts, totes, hoodies and other items will be sold with a percentage of proceeds benefiting A Fabolous Way, a nonprofit organization founded by Fabolous, to support communities.
Haddad’s kids’ fashion shows feature children of famous athletes on the runway. Some of the people expected at the event include whose kids or nieces-nephews are walking the runway include Tiki Barber, Antonio Cromartie, CC Sabathia, Nigel Barker, Steve Weatherford and child actress Alyssa Cheatham.
Organizers described the show as “see-now-buy-now-wear-now” since the merchandise shown will be from holiday 2016 collections, and will be available after the show at Kids Foot Locker at 440 Fulton Street, near City Point. Anchors open at City Point include Century 21 and Alamo Drafthouse Cinema, with Target and Trader Joe’s soon to open.
