Just in time for the holiday season, shopping-for-good Web site Conscious Commerce teamed up with Birchbox for a very “giftable” collaboration.
Actress Olivia Wilde, who cofounded Conscious Commerce with Barbara Burchfield, addressed the project, saying, “Birchbox introduces people to brands all the time. We thought they were a perfect fit for us because we’re trying to introduce people to a new way of shopping. We’re saying, ‘Listen, you can shop for the stuff you actually want and still support conscious companies.’ ”
Male and female versions of the box — retailing for $88 and $68, respectively — include skin care from OSEA, notebooks by Public-Supply and hats from the Krochet Kids brand. “We’re not trying to sell you something that’s conscious but not cool,” said Burchfield.
The conscious-but-cool aim has guided their company since its inception three years ago. “People are so grateful to find out about companies that are supporting good programs. It’s tough to make a dollar. So, when you spend a dollar, you want to know that it’s going to a good place,” said Wilde. The limited-edition boxes are available on the Birchbox Web site and at the company’s flagship store in Manhattan.
