NEW YORK — Wal-Mart Stores has been ordered by a federal judge here to stop selling apparel bearing its Ash Creek logo and crest because it infringes on the trademarked crest of Tommy Hilfiger Corp.

Judge Michael B. Mukasey signed the preliminary injunction April 1 after meeting with Wal-Mart’s attorney. The order was made public Tuesday.

Hilfiger filed suit against the mass merchandising giant on March 29, claiming the crest on Wal-Mart’s men’s shirts, sold under the Ash Creek label, is “substantially similar to” Hilfiger’s crest design.

In a separate trademark suit last month, Hilfiger was denied in its attempt to gain a temporary restraining order barring Siegfried & Parzifal from using a similar logo.
