Ebates, a couponing and shopping promotion web site, has acquired ShopStyle from PopSugar Inc. for an undisclosed amount.
The San Francisco-based web site, which also offers cash back incentives for shopping with certain retailers, scooped up ShopStyle in order to strengthen Ebates’ “product discovery” abilities and to “enhance its expertise in the fast-growing fashion vertical.”
ShopStyle launched in 2007 as a search engine for fashion and has since become a network for retailers and bloggers and a frequent partner with brands. It was acquired by PopSugar that same year for an undisclosed sum.
“ShopStyle is the leading platform for fashion curation and discovery — and fashion is a key area of growth for Ebates,” said Kevin H. Johnson, chief executive officer of Ebates. “Content commerce is critical to the future of e-commerce, and ShopStyle is the natural fit to help us reach the next level of market leadership.”
Ebates and PopSugar Media are also linking up in an “exclusive content commerce partnership” aimed at developing content to drive traffic toward fashion merchants.
The partnership will see PopSugar creating the content while using Ebates’ “expertise” in e-commerce and loyalty marketing to lure more shoppers.
“Ebates has an established and respected history in providing shoppers access to the best online shopping deals,” said Brian Sugar, ceo of PopSugar Inc. “We are excited that ShopStyle will accelerate its growth by leveraging Ebates’ expertise in e-commerce. At the same time, this will provide PopSugar the opportunity to further invest in and double down on our position as the leading global media lifestyle company for young women.”
