EBay launched a look book Monday that takes its content from consumers on the streets. Consumers can upload photos of themselves in their favorite fall styles onto the eBay Fashion LookBook, tag three of the items they’re wearing to explain the style and label, and then eBay links the items to similar looks live on eBay Fashion for purchase. EBay expects thousands of submissions and says it’s not necessary that consumers wear items purchased from or up for sale on eBay to submit a photo.
EBay calls the look book a “democratized celebration of personal style’’ and “a user-generated shopable style gallery.” New, vintage, designer and brand clothing, shoes and accessories are included.
Miriam Lahage, general manager of eBay Fashion, explained the look book enables eBay users to browse styles and trends for fall and then shop eBay based on what inspires them. Lahage said eBay has more than 20 million daily live listings for fashion.
There’s a contest being held whereby eBay users can vote on the outfits they like best. A panel of judges will determine a prize winner out of the top 25 choices. On the panel: Whitney Port, designer and star of “The City”; Elise Loehnen, editor at large of Lucky magazine; Annabel Tollman, celebrity stylist and eBay fashion contributor; Meredith Barnett, editorial director of The Inside Source; and Karen Bard, eBay trend expert. The grand prize includes a $5,000 shopping spree on eBay, style consultation with Loehnen and a photo shoot with Lucky Street Style photographer Michael Waring. The winner will also be on eBay Fashion and The Inside Source, a digital magazine presented by eBay.
To further encourage mass participation in the look book, a photo shoot will be staged in New York City on Tuesday at Astor Place (3rd Avenue and Cooper Square) and in Los Angeles Sept. 29 at The Grove (101 The Grove Drive).
The look book complements other recent efforts by eBay to enhance fashion.ebay.com, including features for easier, quicker navigation, enhanced visuals and applications for mobile shopping.
