NEW YORK — Almost 1,000 retailers here will participate in the second edition of Fashion’s Night Out on Sept. 10, with scores of celebrity appearances and other special events.
Among the highlights, at Bergdorf Goodman Tom Ford, Victoria Beckham, Mary J. Blige, Nicole Richie, Jason Wu, Thom Browne and Simon Spurr will be among those making personal appearances, and there will be a Face-Off Makeup Artist Competition judged by Bryanboy, Catherine Malandrino, Trish McEvoy and Hamish Bowles. For canine fans, Bergdorf’s will stage a Best in Show runway show of dogs with their designer owners, including Bibhu Mohapatra, Georgina Chapman, James Mischka and Mark Badgley, Reem Acra, Lela Rose and Thakoon Panichgul, who plan to make their runway turns with their four-legged friends.
Saks Fifth Avenue, meanwhile, will have designers such as Donna Karan, Charlotte Ronson and Zac Posen, as well as Taboo of the Black Eyed Peas, on hand, and plans include a reprise of the fashion sketch-off. Macy’s Herald Square will welcome a slew of guests, including Oscar de la Renta and Jessica Simpson.
Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen and Proenza Schouler designers Lazaro Hernandez and Jack McCollough will judge a karaoke contest at Barneys New York, Daphne Guinness will visit the store and shoppers can participate in a doubles Ping-Pong tournament against designer duos such as Rag & Bone’s David Neville and Marcus Wainwright and Shipley & Halmos’ Sam Shipley and Jeff Halmos.
Henri Bendel will offer shoppers a $75 makeover at the Frédéric Fekkai salon, and shoppers will also have the chance to put on a Marchesa red-carpet gown and House of Lavande jewels for a photo op, with Olivia Palermo on hand to give posing advice.
Giorgio Armani on Madison Avenue tapped Lauren Hutton, who will share anecdotes with Joan Juliet Buck, while Naomi Campbell will be at Dolce & Gabbana signing limited edition T-shirts featuring images of herself. Balenciaga will present the U.S. exhibition debut of “Cindy Sherman: Untitled (Balenciaga) Series” at the flagship in Chelsea, featuring six photographs, on loan from the collection of François Pinault, that show the artist inhabiting various fashion-world denizens wearing Balenciaga. Karen Elson, who is featured in Balenciaga’s fall ad campaign, will perform live with her band at 9 p.m.
Calvin Klein Collection will show photos of influential American women taken by Canadian rocker Bryan Adams, who also will perform at the shindig co-hosted by Francisco Costa, Italo Zucchelli and Vogue’s Tonne Goodman. Carolina Herrera and daughter Carolina Herrera Baez will mark the opening of the CH Carolina Herrera New York store by hosting illustrator and caricature artist Robert Risko, while Chanel on 57th Street will let shoppers color-customize iconic Chanel ballerina flats, with New York City Ballet’s Kathryn Morgan and Robert Fairchild as special guests.
Downtown, Theory on Gansevoort Street will launch the Fashion Insider Remix video installation with live DJ Miike Snow, and stylists on site will help shoppers coordinate their fall wardrobes. Nearby, Shake Shack will handle the barbecue for Tory Burch’s block party, while Yigal Azrouël will launch an installation with artist Megan Marrin.
André Leon Talley will be at Ralph Lauren in SoHo for a performance by Grammy-nominated singer Janelle Monáe, and Elie Tahari is planning “A Night Out in Old New York” at his West Broadway store, with a performance by the Nunziata Twins and Polaroid photographer Louis Mendes on hand to take snapshots. Kirna Zabête on Greene Street will host designers including Alexander Wang, Panichgul, Peter Som, Wu and Elise Overland. Opening Ceremony will stage a French flea market inspired by Paris’ Les Puces de Saint-Ouen at the Ace Hotel, with market booths for designers and labels such as Joseph Altuzarra, Patrik Ervell, Proenza Schouler and Rodarte.
Those needing targeted transportation could turn to Payless ShoeSource, which will sponsor six Gray Line double-decker buses to get people to key retail locations. The company also will stage a fete at its 716 Lexington Avenue store hosted by Christian Siriano, Rose, Patricia Field and Isabel Toledo. Volkswagen will have a fleet of vehicles on hand, as well.
