PARIS — French department store chain BHV Marais, part of the Galeries Lafayette Group, will open its second overseas unit in September with a 64,500-square-foot flagship in Dubai’s City Walk mall.
The franchise store in the United Arab Emirates will be developed with regional retail operator ADMIC, which has been operating a BHV Marais store in Beirut, Lebanon, since 1998. “It may be followed by targeted additional openings in the coming years,” BHV Marais said.
The Dubai store, designed by architect Kristina Zanic, will use materials such as wood and stone to evoke the recently rebranded Paris flagship, which this year celebrates its 160th anniversary. In parallel, BHV Marais will kick off renovations at its store in the Parly 2 mall near Paris.
Nicolas Houzé, chief executive officer of Galeries Lafayette and BHV Marais, said the international expansion mirrors that of the larger Galeries Lafayette chain, which has opened locations in Berlin, Casablanca, Dubai, Jakarta and Beijing in recent years, and is plotting future units in Milan, Doha and Istanbul.
The retailer is looking overseas to counter lackluster spending in France, where it has 57 locations.
“With a unique expertise in home and fashion products, we are convinced that this new BHV Marais flagship in Dubai will be welcomed with great enthusiasm and will strengthen our presence in the region,” Houzé said.
