Bergdorf Goodman has promoted George Fountas to vice president and general merchandise manager of women’s ready-to-wear, a new role in the company.
Fountas had been vice president and divisional merchandise manager of designer ready-to-wear.
It’s the third high-level change within Bergdorf’s merchant ranks since September when Darcy Penick became the retailer’s president, joining from Shopbop, and about a month later, Yumi Shin became chief merchant, joining from Saks Fifth Avenue. Fountas continues to report to Shin.
“Women’s ready-to-wear continues to be at the center of everything we do at Bergdorf’s,” said Shin. “George’s experience, eye and relationships position him perfectly for our future fashion business growth.”
Fountas has been in the Bergdorf’s buying organization since 2013. Earlier, he held buying roles at Bloomingdale’s in women’s American and European designers, modern collections and bridge. Bergdorf Goodman is a division of the Neiman Marcus Group.
