Macy’s Inc. president Hal Lawton has resigned from the company after two years on the job. He is joining the Tractor Supply Co. in Tennessee as chief executive officer.
Macy’s did not name a successor.
The resignation comes days after the company reported a weak third quarter marked by negative sales and higher inventories.
”Hal has made significant contributions to the business over the past two years including improving the Macy’s operational cadence,” said Jeff Gennette, chairman and chief executive officer. “Hal also helped us build an excellent team and with their leadership I’m confident that Macy’s will continue strong execution through holiday 2019 and beyond.”
Lawton was formerly with eBay and had a wide range of responsibilities at Macy’s.
