NEW YORK — Compilation CDs have become to retail-media synergy what all-you-can-eat buffets are to Las Vegas casino culture. J.Crew is the latest addition: the retailer plans to release an in-house CD, entitled “Getaway,” consisting of a compilation of road tunes including Moby’s “Natural Blues” and Chaka Khan and Rufus’ “Ain’t Nobody.”

The debut music CD for J.Crew will be available in stores beginning March 1. The CD also will contain images from J.Crew’s marketing campaign, entitled “Road Trip,” but not based on the Tom Green movie of the same title.

The ad campaign, consisting of a road trip involving a small group of friends, was shot in Southern California. It will appear in J.Crew’s four upcoming catalogs and retail window installations.
