Video-based e-commerce site Joyus is gearing up for growth with two high-level new hires.
The San Francisco-based company, which raised $24 million in Series C funding in June, tapped Joe Megibow as president and Nick Ionita as chief product officer.
Megibow comes from American Eagle Outfitters, where he was chief digital officer. The position is new to Joyus and will give Megibow responsibility for product, engineering, editorial and growth. Ionita was senior vice president of product management at FreeWheel, with experience in digital media, monetization and distribution.
“As we scale Joyus, the opportunity for us to become world class at the intersection of premium content and commerce is only accelerated by these newest additions to our team,” said founder and chief executive officer Sukhinder Singh Cassidy. “Joe brings unparalleled strength as one of the most experienced retail thinkers in e-commerce today, while Nick’s deep domain expertise in content syndication and video are uniquely aligned to how we create and distribute compelling content on our platform.”
Megibow said the Joyus approach to content brings a trust and confidence typically found in brick-and-mortar shopping. “By adding the ability to shop within the video,” he said, “we bring the store to our customer. I feel Joyus could bring the same kind of exciting disruption that mobile brought to desktop shopping.”
Both will report to Cassidy, who created Joyus in 2011 as a direct-response video shopping network for women. It publishes content on Joyus.com and sites including People, AOL, Entertainment Tonight and Hollywood Life. In October, it expanded with editorial content and visual images and a digital, shoppable magazine. Joyus has about 100 employees.
