AND THE WINNER IS… : Luxury conglomerate LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton received the award for International Retailer of the Year at the 2013 World Retail Awards held at the Salle Wagram in Paris on Tuesday evening.

Former LVMH chairman and chief executive officer Yves Carcelle, one of the keynote speakers at the World Retail Congress, held in Paris from Oct. 7 to 9, was presented with the Oustanding Leadership Award for his services to the global luxury industry.

Whole Foods took away the prize for Retailer of the Year at the black tie gala dinner, while vente-privé was named Pure Play Etailer of the Year. Brazilian fine chocolate chain Cacau Show scooped the award for Emerging Market Retailer of the Year, while the prize for Best New Retail Launch went to Nigerian online retailer Jumia.

“We are delighted with the wide international reach of this year’s winners and that for the first time, we are presenting an award to an African retailer,” said Ian McGarrigle, chairman of the World Retail Congress.

The judges for this year’s awards included Ian Cheshire, group chief executive of Kingfisher plc; Mindy Grossman, ceo of HSN Inc; Bernie Brookes, ceo of Myer Ltd; Gordon Campbell, ceo of Spar International and Rick Darling, president of DSG and vice chairman of Li & Fung US.
