A Taste of Britain: Madison Avenue likes to play up its international flavor and will do so once again by highlighting its growing presence of British-based brands. The “Great Britain on Madison Avenue” event, running Nov. 5 to 8 and organized by the Madison Avenue Business Improvement District, will spotlight about 20 luxury boutiques, restaurants and galleries. Barbour, Belstaff, Graff Diamonds, Jo Malone and Mulberry, among other companies, will host special events from tea tastings to guest speakers and exhibitions. A percentage of sales during the promotion will benefit Historic Royal Palaces, which helps preserve historic buildings such as the Tower of London and Kensington Palace. The campaign will highlight “the best of British craftsmanship and design and support some of our luxury brands” said Clare Risman, head of marketing for the United Kingdom Trade and Investment and the campaign. A few years ago, the BID and the Italian Trade Commission staged an event to promote Italian retailers on the avenue. On the British front, L.K. Bennett and Roland Mouret both opened on Madison Avenue within the last six months.
