Akshat Thanawala has been named chief product officer of Moda Operandi, a new post.
He will oversee Moda Operandi’s product strategy across consumer-facing platforms and designer tools and services.
Most recently, he was vice president of product management at Grubhub at its Chicago headquarters, where he oversaw products for both sides of Grubhub’s marketplace, building out the company’s restaurant platforms and key diner-facing products. Earlier, he was in product leadership roles at both Expedia and Orbitz.
“Akshat’s experience building innovative products for complex marketplace systems is invaluable to Moda as we aim to build the best experiences for both our customers and brand partners,” said Ganesh Srivats, chief executive officer of Moda Operandi.
Thanawala said, “Building meaningful products through technology has been a passion of mine throughout my career.” He said he was excited to work alongside Srivats, to whom he reports, and the leadership team to “create superior online experiences for Moda’s customers and ecosystem partners, especially as we enter this new growth phase.”
Thanawala’s appointment follows the naming last month of Kristina Salen as the new chief financial officer.
Moda Operandi, which operates under a trunk show model, was founded in 2010 by Lauren Santo Domingo and Aslaug Magnúsdottir. The site carries more than 1,000 brands and designers and ships to 125 countries. Moda Operandi has raised nearly $300 million in funding from top-tier global investors.
