Modell’s will open its second location in Harlem, N.Y., on Thursday.

The opening of the 13,000-square-foot store at 135 East 125th Street at Lexington Avenue, brings the sporting goods retailer’s total store count to 159. The company also operates a store at 300 West 125th Street.

The company will hold a ribbon cutting at 9 a.m. with chief executive officer Mitchell Modell, members of the retailer’s executive committee and local community leaders. Later that afternoon, New York Giants cornerback Eli Apple will appear at the store to meet fans. All that day, the store will run special opening promotions.

“Modell’s is thrilled to open this new location right on the cusp of back-to-school and the fall sports season,” Modell said. “With the exponential growth of Harlem and the recent influx of tourists, we saw this as a major opportunity to support the community by adding a second store on 125th.”

The store will carry apparel and footwear for men, women and children from activewear brands including Nike, Under Armour, Adidas and others.
