NEW YORK — Jil Sander will have the uptown and downtown crowds covered, starting Saturday.
That’s when the company, which already has a Crosby Street flagship in lower Manhattan, will open a new Madison Avenue location. In January, Jil Sander shuttered its store at 1042 Madison Avenue before moving a few blocks south.
Located at 818 Madison Avenue, between East 68th and 69th Streets, the new two-level, 725-square-foot space will feature women’s and men’s ready-to-wear, shoes, bags, accessories, jewelry, eyewear, fragrance and the Jil Sander Sartorial made-to-measure service. The store will highlight the brand’s contemporary design and purity.
With 68 units worldwide, the addition will bring Jil Sander’s U.S. store count to three — a third boutique is open in Chicago. The new space is the latest initiative in the strategic development of the Jil Sander retail network, and the reopening on Madison Avenue is meant to bolster the designer label’s presence in New York.
However, the location is a temporary one for a couple of years, a Jil Sander spokeswoman said. Ultimately, Jil Sander plans to unveil a permanent uptown store that will be designed to reflect the sleek interior of the company’s downtown unit, which creative director Raf Simons was instrumental in creating from floor to ceiling.
