Nike opened the doors to its enormous new SoHo store Nov. 18 at 12 p.m., after a week-long delay due to permit issues. The five-story, 55,000 square foot space at 529 Broadway was slated to open Nov. 12, with a considerable amount of marketing — a big party on Nov. 10, a press push and personal appearances and exclusive product launches — all timed to the debut. But a permit issue arose at the 11th hour, forcing Nike to issue this statement late the night before the original opening date:

“We look forward to bringing New Yorkers the best of Nike at our new SoHo store. Due to permitting issues, the store will not open to the general public as planned on Friday, November 11th. We will communicate the new opening date as soon as possible. Scheduled product launches and consumer events are postponed until opening.”
