Nordstrom Inc. has named Ann Munson Steines executive vice president, general counsel and corporate secretary to oversee the company’s legal and risk department.
Steines will also serve on the executive team.
“Ann is a seasoned leader whose deep retail perspective and significant legal experience is an excellent addition to our leadership team,” said Erik Nordstrom, copresident of Nordstrom Inc. “Her breadth of experience supporting business leaders and boards of directors will be a valuable asset as we continue to scale our critical investments in technology, people and physical spaces to serve customers no matter how they choose to shop.”
Steines joins Nordstrom from Macy’s where she was most recently senior vice president, deputy general counsel and assistant secretary since 2009. She started her career as a labor and employment attorney for a law firm and joined the Macy’s law department in 1998. She had a series of promotions at Macy’s where she spent a significant amount of time in the corporate legal practice group, including leading public company securities and governance work.
She succeeds Robert Sari who retired as Nordstrom’s general counsel in March. Sheryl Garland has served as corporate secretary and interim general counsel since his retirement and will continue as vice president, deputy general counsel.
Nordstrom said Steines’ appointment reflects a commitment to a diverse workforce and that Steines is now the third female on the company’s 10-member executive team.
