SOUTHAMPTON, N.Y. — The Hamptons warrant more than a traditional drugstore. That’s just what NYCO Chemist delivered here on Aug. 14 with the opening of its fourth store, a 2,500-square-foot unit.
The store is operated under the White’s Apothecary logo and joins the White’s in East Hampton, which NYCO acquired and renovated in 2014. NYCO operates its original store called City Chemist in Brooklyn Heights as well as a store in Brooklyn’s DUMBO neighborhood.
At the helm of cultivating the beauty assortment is Diana Dolling-Ross, executive store director for NYCO, and the catalyst for delivering the premium beauty brands local clientele demand.
With a theme of “The Best of Hampton Beauty,” the store debut featured facials by La Mer, makeup application by artists from Smashbox and Kevyn Aucoin, and hair consultations from Bumble and bumble. In attendance were celebrity makeup artist for “Saturday Night Live” and creator of Cleanse Lauren Napier and Hampton Sun president Sal Piazzolla.
The beauty assortment is rounded out by brands handpicked by Dolling-Ross, including Bobbi Brown, Darphin, Diptyque, Creed, Cle de Peau, Caudalie, Eve Lom, Alchimie and Dr. Gross. Additionally, Dolling-Ross reacted to growing demand for natural beauty with Tata Harper, RMS and Ilia Beauty. Services such as facials, eyebrow maintenance and consultation for skin-care issues are provided in the store
“Let’s not forget the well-groomed “Hampton’s man,” Dolling-Ross added of an array of men’s skin-care and grooming items. “This category of men’s skin care and grooming is just booming and continues to gain momentum.” We offer men’s facials, brow grooming and shaving tips,” she said. “Our brand mix for men is unique as well with Baxter of California, Blind Barber and The Art of Shaving.
Products are presented in an open environment adorned with fresh flowers, white walls and marble countertops. Gift wrapping and shipping across the U.S. is available. While beauty is the focal point of the store, there is a full-service pharmacy.
Despite consolidation in the independent drugstore industry, stores such as White’s represent a growing niche of the business offering European-style apothecary stores with elevated beauty selections.
