As Prom Season approaches, specialty retailers can expect an uptick in sales of formal dresses for teens. Indeed, on average, U.S. consumers will spend about $195 on prom dresses alone, according to Statisticbrain.com. Add the limousine, food and other amenities, and the total cost for the night jumps to nearly $1,000.

According to data compiled by Statista, average prom spending dollars declined last year to $978 per household from $1,139 in 2013. This year may see a boost, though, amid higher consumer confidence, pent-up spending demand and lower fuel costs.
