TAYLOR MADE FOR MIAMI: Rebecca Taylor, whose ninth freestanding store was unveiled today at the Aventura Mall in Miami, projected first-year sales for the 1,400-square-foot unit of $2 million.
The store will sell Taylor’s ready-to-wear, exclusive products, limited-edition collaborations, and the recently launched casual and denim line, La Vie Rebecca Taylor. “It’s so pretty,” the designer said of the store. “It’s predominately a shade of nude, like a ballet slipper.”
The blush palette of the store is unapologetically feminine. Italian Terrazzo tiles in various shades of pink are made of tiny mirrors, which creates a glistening effect. Crystalized salt rock and Terrazzo table tops are juxtaposed with textured velvet, cashmere and sheepskin throws. Photographer James Porschen’s work enlivens the store with shots of citron.
“Our clothes have a lot of action in them,” Taylor said, explaining that she wanted the store’s decor to recede and allow the collection to speak. “The shelves are nude and the powder-coated hangers are nude.”
Taylor, who visited Miami for the first time two years ago during Art Basel Miami Beach, said opening a store in the city has been a long-term goal. “The city’s really trending,” she said. “It’s a huge market. Miami has become iconic for luxury shopping. It has a large international customer base. A lot of people go there from South America and there are Russian tourists and snow birds,” who are escaping colder climates in the U.S.
Taylor’s customer is interested in trans-seasonal clothing. “They’re wanting value, so they can wear it through seasons,” she said.
A Rebecca Taylor store is scheduled to open at NorthPark Center in Dallas in the spring.
