Roland Mouret is in a space race.
Although his flagship at 925 Madison Avenue is less than a year old, Mouret has already set his sights on a space that’s almost four times as large.
A 5,250-square-foot landmark town house with six floors at 1006 Madison Avenue near 78th Street will be the designer’s new home in Manhattan.
“Roland Mouret has selected the ideal location on the Upper East Side for its new flagship store,” said Joseph Sitt, chief executive officer of Thor Equities, which owns the property. “With the Apple Store opening on 940 Madison Avenue and the Metropolitan Museum of Art coming to 945 Madison Avenue, this corridor continues to grow in stature as a premier destination for both locals and international visitors.”
Mouret’s new Madison Avenue flagship sounds similar to his London store at 8 Carlos Place in Mayfair, which is located in a six-story town house. The Madison Avenue town house features 20-foot ceilings, the better to display Mouret’s handbags, shoes, scarves and sunglasses as well as dresses and other ready-to-wear.
Mouret’s neighbors on Madison Avenue will be Intermix, Vilebrequin, Missoni, The Carlyle Hotel and the Mark Hotel.
A spokeswoman for Roland Mouret had no comment on the move.
