MUMMY DEAREST: Talk about vintage. Last week, Saks Fifth Avenue pulled the wraps off its Mummy windows created in collaboration with Universal Pictures to promote “The Mummy” movie starring Tom Cruise.

Five windows along the northwest side of the Saks flagship by Fifth Avenue and 50th Street and areas inside the store feature props, including sarcophagi and costumes from the movie, movie-inspired MAC Cosmetics and a mummy or two that don’t require much digging to find.

The windows stay up through June 13 and a launch event will be held at the flagship on June 7 with expected appearances by Sofia Boutella, who plays the title character, and the director, Alex Kurtzman. While the Mummy does have a signature style, Saks appears to just be having some fun with its windows again, having in January re-created a United Airlines jet in conjunction with its bedding collection provided for United’s Polaris Business Class.

Saks Fifth Avenue has long commemorated pop-culture events, and we’re excited to celebrate the release of ‘The Mummy’…by creating visual experiences for our customers in New York and Beverly Hills,” said Mark Briggs, executive vice president of creative, at Hudson’s Bay Co., which operates Saks.

“The windows at Saks often draw from major cultural moments, including movies, and Sofia Boutella’s ancient Middle Eastern-inspired costumes are some of the most beautiful and ethereal we’ve ever seen. They’ve become the inspiration for the beautiful scenes we’ve created in partnership with Universal Pictures.”
