Unfortunately, the day Dwyane Wade proposed to Gabrielle Union, she did not have a manicure. Therefore, the “Being Mary Jane” actress shared her ring via Instagram with unpolished tips.

But the mishap did result in one good thing. Union is set to become the first celebrity ambassador of Sensationail, the mass-market at-home gel manicure system that utilizes an LED light.

“[My husband] proposed in between manicures and my manicurist called and said, ‘I cannot believe on your biggest moment your nails looked crazy,’” said Union. “After that she sent me the [Sensationail] starter kit and the card said, ‘No excuses, you’re not going to make me look terrible even if you’re on your own.’”

Starting Dec. 8 a campaign titled Confessions of a Gel Fanatic will run on national TV starring Union. The company is hoping to clarify to the consumer what makes a true gel polish.

“We’ve had great success in the market,” said Monica Maloney, vice president at Pacific World, which owns Sensationail. “We want to keep up that momentum and continue to increase brand awareness and have somebody be the face and the voice of Sensationail.”

Maloney added, that with this partnership, the company is confident that sales will increase at a double-digit rate.

Sensationail is priced at $11.99 for polishes to $59.99 for a starter kit and sold at mass-market retailers and drugstores like Walgreens and Target.

Meanwhile, the company is hoping to utilize Union’s social platforms where she receives instant feedback from fans whether it’s about a nail color or hairstyle. In the future Sensationail would like to work with Union on new shades and colors specific to her.

Union declared, “When you get lazy like me and you want to show off your ring to the world always err on the side of caution.”
