NEW YORK — Jeffrey White is stepping down as president of importer S. Shamash & Sons Inc.

He will serve as a consultant to the New York-based company and retain his minority ownership stake in it. Executive vice president Kevin Kiley, an 18-year Shamash veteran, will succeed him as president, effective Jan. 1.

White, 49, has served as president of the firm since 1990, when his uncle, Jack Shamash, died. White was the fourth generation of the family to run the company.

“I want to look for new opportunities for the company and have the opportunity to work as a consultant to other companies, too,” said White.

He noted that Shamash has extensive operations in China, which has recently been admitted into the World Trade Organization.

“I’m surprised that larger companies haven’t already tried to move some of their manufacturing there,” he added.
