Archroma, a Swiss color and specialty chemical company, released its latest advanced water repellency product for activewear and gear: Smartrepel Hydro AM, which is a “universal” water repellent protection agent that “boosts” durability for fabrics.
Smartrepel Hydro AM is part of the Smartrepel series, a biodegradable, micro-encapsulated, non-PFC based durable and water-repellent range. The series supports the adoption of sustainable materials and processes by brands and textile manufacturers, particularly for initiatives such as eco-label standards Oeko-Tex and Bluesign, or the OZDHC program, according to the firm.
Smartrepel Hydro AM can be used for all fibers, including polyester, polyamide and cotton-based textiles as well as synthetic fabrics, Archroma confirmed.
The company said that its Smartrepel Hydro series was created to meet increased consumer demand for sustainable clothing and gear, and that its products can “extend the benefits of high-performing, nature-friendlier protection to the full spectrum of fibers used in today’s outdoor and sportswear segments.” Its advanced formulation integrates a soft hand-feel and increased breathability, durability and water protection. According to Archroma, textile manufacturers confirmed that the new formula improved runnability and reduced roller build-up, which streamlines its application through pad and exhaust application processes, according to the firm.
Georg Lang, global head of product marketing finishing, textile specialties, at Archroma, said “This advanced version of our Smartrepel technology combines, into one product only, two benefits that are sought-after by outdoor brands and retailers: a nature-friendlier chemistry, together with long-lasting, efficient water repellency for all fibers. Smartrepel Hydro AM brings onto the market a positive alternative to conventional fluorocarbon-based water repellency products.”
