Cellular sales help apparel shoppers will soon be able to scan 2D bar codes on store hangtags with their cell phones and see sales suggestions displayed on the phone because of ScanLife, a system developed by apparel ticket maker Avery Dennison Corp. and mobile bar code company Scanbuy Inc. While 2D bar codes are nothing new, this may be the first system developed specifically for apparel. The bar code connects the phone to a Web site that displays matching items, discounts and any other kind of marketing message a brand wants to communicate. Several retailers and brands plan to try out ScanLife in pilot tests later this year, said Avery Dennison.
