The new, limited-edition Gucci-designed Spectacles 3.

Gucci’s star-studded party with Snap — in honor of Harmony Korine’s experimental, Spectacles 3-shot film Duck Duck — isn’t the only collaboration between the design house, director and the social media company.

On Thursday, they unveiled a new limited-edition version of Spectacles 3.

Spectacles x Gucci by Harmony Korine was inspired by the photographer and filmmaker and designed by Gucci to appeal to creative types. Snap, ever the augmented reality-obsessed tech maker, also developed a virtual try-on experience for Snapchatters. Users merely scan the Snapcode to access it.

The project, launched in conjunction with Art Basel in Miami Beach, is just the latest in Gucci and Korine’s long-standing relationship.

The latter shot several of the fashion house’s ad campaigns, including 2019 Holiday “Gift Giving,” cruise 2020 and men’s tailoring, as well as the brand’s pre-fall 2019 collection look book and the limited-edition Artbook, Gucci by Harmony Korine. In June, the Gucci Hub in Milan dedicated a cinematic exhibit to Korine during Men’s Fashion Week.

Gucci is also known for collaborating with Snap on AR lenses. Most recently, the label’s holiday campaign featured a luxury fashion Portal Lens to a virtual beach.

Now, the company is entering the world of Snap hardware with the special-edition Spectacles, a device decked out in the Gucci moniker and logos.

Given that scarcity often drives hype and value, the techie glasses’ limited run — of only 50 pairs — seems particularly notable. And while no price was disclosed on this model, the nearly $400 price tag on last month’s launch version suggests that the Gucci edition would fetch much more, if it ever expands into a larger run.

With its dual camera array and depth-sensing technology, paired with the software’s augmented reality filters, Spectacles 3 takes direct aim at creative content makers like Korine.

With Gucci on board, it looks like the tech is focusing its lenses on the fashion market, in particular…making it seem like a matter of time before the eyewear bounds down runways or shoots behind-the-scenes Snaps.
