Apparently it takes a lot of tech to save beauty amateurs from themselves.
At SXSW on Friday, Perfect Corp. revealed its latest effort to perfect the makeover experience — by making live beauty experts available on-demand through Beauty Advisor, a new feature heading to its YouCam Makeup app.
With no appointments or schedulings, the feature works like a cosmetics hotline. A software update puts Beauty Advisor on the app’s main page, making it easy to get an expert opinion anytime.
“With one tap, beauty lovers can request a live one-on-one video chat with an expert YouCam Beauty Advisor, directly from their mobile device,” a spokeswoman told WWD.
Perfect Corp. declined to comment on who the advisers are or how the app sources them. But if there’s any doubt about the quality of the customized recommendations, users can easily check them out for themselves, thanks to augmented reality.
“Once connected, a prompt will allow users to enter Live Training Mode, where advisers can walk you through guided AR makeup trials to test complete looks, and favorite products virtually and in real-time,” she added.
Perfect Corp. uses facial mapping technology and artificial intelligence to drive realistic-looking makeovers. The app also employs virtual representations of cosmetics that exist in the real world, making it possible to replicate favorite looks in real life.
SXSW attendees will be able to demo the new feature, after the company’s keynote and panel “Empowering the Beauty Retail Transformation with AR & AI Technologies” on Saturday at the SXSW Style Lounge, hosted by WWD. The Beauty Advisor feature will also be available through an update to the YouCam Makeup app starting Friday.
