Britney is back: Britney Spears will perform at the 2016 MTV Video Music Awards on Aug. 28, it was revealed Tuesday — her first time performing onstage at the VMAs in 10 years.
The performance is timed nicely with the expected release of her upcoming album, “Glory,” on Aug. 26. Her turn on the VMA stage will indeed mark her first at the show in 10 years, but she has been a regular attendee in past years. She will perform her latest single, “Make Me.”
Spears has been busy in Las Vegas, where she has a residency at The Axis in Planet Hollywood Las Vegas for her show “Britney: Piece of Me.” Last month, it was announced that along with U2, Drake and Sia, she will headline the upcoming iHeartRadio festival. The festival will take place conveniently for Spears in Las Vegas, on Sept. 23 and 24; other performers include Ariana Grande, Usher, Good Charlotte, Hailee Steinfeld, Alessia Cara, Pitbull, Zedd, Sting, Panic! At the Disco, Cold War Kids, The Chainsmokers, DNCE and OneRepublic.
Spears is the recipient of six VMA awards. She won three for 2008’s “Piece of Me,” one for 2009’s “Womanizer” and one for 2011’a “Til the World Ends,” in addition to her Vanguard Award.
This year’s VMAs are taking place at Madison Square Garden, for the first time ever. Nominees for the VMAs this year include Kanye West, Adele, Beyoncé, Drake and Justin Bieber for the top prize of “Video of the Year.” The best new artist contenders are Bryson Tiller, Desiigner, Zara Larsson, Lukas Graham and DNCE.
Spears has been busy with her beauty line, recently incorporating her fragrances into her mobile app, “Britney Spears: American Dream.”
