GOING TO THE ABBEY: Could Westminster Abbey be the venue for Prince William and Kate Middleton’s wedding next year?
On Wednesday night, Middleton took a tour of the abbey, which has served as the venue for the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II in 1953 and Princess Diana’s funeral in 1997.
A spokeswoman for St. James’ Palace said that Middleton “paid a short, private visit to the abbey to meet staff, in order to consider it as an option, before [the couple] consult their families,” the spokeswoman noted. She declined to comment on other possible venues.
“All that we have said is they plan to get married in London,” she said. St. Paul’s Cathedral, where Prince Charles and Princess Diana married in 1981, is also said to be a possible venue for the nuptials.
