Kinney, 35, and Gaga, 30, became engaged in February 2015; the wedding was expected to be quite the fashion spectacle, given the superstar’s penchant for eclectic, high-fashion looks. Last May, designers such as Alber Elbaz, Karl Lagerfeld, Francisco Costa, Alexander Wang and more created sketches for WWD of what they could envision Gaga wearing down the aisle. Of the dress for her special day, Gaga told WWD, “It will be totally for Taylor. It’s all about my man. I haven’t really thought about anything specific yet, but whatever it is, it will be totally for him.”
Though the couple rarely made public appearances together, all seemed well earlier this year when Gaga shared photos of the two of them doing some good together with Operation Smile.
They were together for five years; Kinney, an actor on the show “Chicago Fire,” and Gaga met when he played the love interest in the video for her song “Yoü and I.” They became engaged on Valentine’s Day in 2015. Gaga confirmed the engagement later on Instagram, writing, “He gave me his heart on Valentine’s Day, and I said YES!”
Their most recent red-carpet appearance together was this year’s Academy Awards, during which Gaga wore a custom creation by her stylist-turned-designer Brandon Maxwell. Acting is a new endeavor for the musician; she won a Golden Globe earlier this year for her role in”American Horror Story: Hotel.”
The Gaga-Kinney breakup is the second in two days for a high-profile couple often seen on the fashion circuit. Diane Kruger — a front-row fixture at the likes of Chanel who is the face of watch brand Jaeger-LeCoultre — and actor Joshua Jackson on Monday said they were calling it quits after being together for 10 years.
