While some of his peers opted for swanky after party venues like the 18th floor of The Standard hotel or new eatery Kenmare, Chris Benz celebrated his presentation on Monday night at a slightly more offbeat location — ping-pong parlor Spin New York in Gramercy.
“My friend Eva’s mom said ‘you have to have it here’,” said Benz, referring to pal Eva Amurri, whose mom Susan Sarandon is an investor in the space. (While Amurri was otherwise occupied in Los Angeles, Sarandon stopped by Benz’s presentation earlier in the day and popped into the party briefly.)
All in all, Benz thought the venue was a hit. “I think the fashion crowd is always up for trying new parlor games,” said the designer, who declined to play a round himself on account of his lackluster ping-pong skills.
“I used to play tennis in high school, so I keep thinking the paddle is bigger than it is,” he said.
