As first ladies go, California now boasts two of the chicest figures in recent memory. San Francisco’s new mayor, Gavin Newsom, took his inaugural oath at City Hall Thursday, while his wife, Kimberly Guilfoyle, stood proud in a Chanel suit, and Maria Shriver looked on dressed in a smart red coatdress. Per the mayor’s request, the traditional fancy inaugural ball was replaced with tea and shortbread cookies in his office and an evening spent riding the municipal bus to greet constituents. The golden couple finally arrived at their own burgers-and-beers restaurant, Balboa, at 10:30 p.m., where members of the Newsom and Guilfoyle clans greeted Gavin with a standing ovation. In another refreshing break with tradition, the couple also hosted another low-key celebratory dinner Friday night at — where else? — a laid-back Mexican bar.
