While the presidential race may be playing nationwide, it seems that hordes of Americans prefer to live in fantasy land. “Game of Thrones” star Sophie Turner charmed the fan-filled crowd gathered Friday at San Diego’s Comic Con International to get a glimpse of the hit HBO show’s cast and creators during a public question-and-answer panel.

Turner, who plays Sansa Stark on the global phenomenon that is “GOT,” was on fire even as Winter Has Arrived. If showrunner David Benioff was to be believed, “Sophie Turner made us do vodka shots beforehand!” “I’m 20! I can’t do any of that!” Turner insisted.

But Turner’s off-the-cuff commentary kept the “Thrones” fans laughing throughout the panel, a welcome distraction, since creators Benioff and D.B. Weiss weren’t getting a dragon’s flight close to revealing any plot points from the upcoming season. Among the candid gems offered by Turner was her take on Sansa’s estimation of Jon Snow’s leadership abilities: “I’m not sure Sansa believes Jon is capable of running Winterfell in the North,” she said. “He doesn’t have the intellect, the knowledge, the experience that she has. I concur.”

When a fan offered a scenario in which the nonblood-related but raised-together Jon and Sansa might somehow couple up, she appeared ready to run with it. “Let’s get the party started,” Turner said. “Jon likes redheads, he does. But Jon and Sansa grew up together; they have that sibling rivalry. I swear to God, Dave and Dan, if you make anything happen like that, I will kill you!”

The crowd booed and laughed when Turner put her money on a dark horse candidate to rule the fictional kingdom. “I think I want Littlefinger on the throne,” she said. “I do! I just think it’d be fun. It’d be quirky and sadistic. We like that kind of thing. Come on, we all watch ‘Game of Thrones.’”

Also winning points with the fans was Nathalie Emmanuel, who plays Melisandre, the right-hand woman to Emilia Clarke’s Daenerys Targaryen, when she commented on their female bonding. “It’s hard to know what the future brings for her but I think that she genuinely believes in Daenerys,” said Emmanuel. “Daenerys has saved her life and liberated her and acknowledged her brilliance…these are two women who respect and lift each other up. It’s a really sweet friendship. I hope they continue to be this girl-power couple.”
