ALL IN THE FAMILY: How many Jenner-Kardashians does it take to snap one photo? At the bash hosted by Opening Ceremony and Calvin Klein on Thursday night at Chateau Marmont, guest of honor Kendall Jenner first tried to get one with older sister Kourtney Kardashian. Then their youngest sibling, Kylie Jenner, stepped into the frame. Soon after that, their mom, Kris Jenner, sidled up. Finally, Khloe Kardashian bookended the picture in a white form-fitting dress to match Kendall’s all-beige get-up, in contrast to the noir palette favored by the others preening between them.
Along with Cara Delevingne, Jussie Smollett, Gia Coppola, Bella Hadid, Hailey Baldwin, Melanie Griffith, Lance Bass and the cool kids who populate Opening Ceremony’s stores, the Jenner-Kardashian family showed their support for Kendall’s new Calvin Klein Jeans ad campaign, which was strategically displayed on a billboard directly across the street from the hotel.
To prep for her shoot filled with sweats, logo tees and tummy-baring jeans, Jenner turned to her favorite past campaigns, including the sexy ads featuring Kate Moss and Mark Wahlberg sans shirts. Never mind that she wasn’t born yet to witness their debut but that’s what the Internet is for. “I definitely studied those a little bit and got into a vibe,” she said.
The 19-year-old is open to trying any kind of denim, whether it be short-shorts, skinny jeans or the knee-length cutoffs she rocked recently at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival. She added another pair to her wardrobe just that morning, when Opening Ceremony opened an hour early so she could buy a hand-made pair that resembles denim but actually isn’t. “It doesn’t matter what it is as long as my butt looks nice in it,” she said.
What Jenner knows for sure is that designing is not her forte. She’s never even attempted a DIY project as many women her age have. “I’ve looked at the tutorial things on YouTube to cut off jeans and it just never works for me,” she confessed. “I’m just not skilled at arts and crafts.”
Jenner is leaving designing duties to Opening Ceremony’s Humberto Leon and Carol Lim, who are busy creating clothes for both their store’s namesake label and Kenzo. When the subject of a potential collaboration with Calvin Klein came up, Leon teased, “more like a little project.” “We’ll see,” Lim added.
Despite Opening Ceremony’s track record with promoting cutting-edge ready-to-wear, the two are well versed in denim. Leon wore Calvin Klein overalls during his youth growing up in Rosemead, Calif., whereas Lim still owns one of the brand’s jean jackets from back in the day. They pointed out that their store was also the first in the U.S. to sell Acne Studios, Cheap Monday and Rag & Bone before snaring the new Calvin Klein Jeans collection exclusively.
Still, the duo made sure to limit shoptalk at their soiree. Fulfilling his filial duty, Leon brought his mom as a date and got her a fun party favor: a selfie with Kris Jenner.
“How can I not get a picture of my mom with Kris?” he said. “That’s a major mom moment.”
