Saks Fifth Avenue’s annual “An Unforgettable Evening” on Thursday night at the Beverly Wilshire hotel provided the perfect girl’s night out — with a few good men. Guests Tommy Hilfiger, Amber Valletta, Lisa Kudrow, Julianne Hough and Kelly Lynch hit the hotel for an inspirational night. Though for Kobe Bryant the night kicked off on an unsteady foot. “The hardest thing is getting off this robo boot…and getting in and out of pants,” said the L.A. Laker, who recently tore his Achilles tendon. “I had my wife Vanessa help me [get ready]. I do not have a fancy boot. We’ll have to work on that. It’s kind of clashing with the tux right now.”
Carolina Herrera, the evening’s Nat King Cole Award recipient for her charitable contributions to the fight against cancer, said, “I’m always [in awe] of actors and actresses. I love it. I’m very happy to see everyone. This is not new for me, but I still love it. I see the movies and I know some of them, but it’s always exciting to see them.”
Of course, everyone lent a hand when it came to raising funds and awareness for the Entertainment Industry Foundation’s Women’s Cancer Research Fund.
“What keeps me coming back is that we have to keep awareness out there and we have to keep raising money because I, in my lifetime, want to find a cure for breast cancer,” said Rita Wilson, who accompanied a laryngitis-plagued Kate Capshaw. Chelsea Handler played emcee while Kylie Minogue picked up the Courage Award for her battle with breast cancer in 2005. “I may have beat cancer, but I haven’t had a growth spurt,” quipped the petite singer, who adjusted the mic, then got serious. “I am one of the lucky ones. So many others, despite their immense courage, were not as fortunate.”
Performer Bruno Mars ended things on a light note. “It’s okay to get up!” instructed the feathered fedora-wearing singer as the crowd rose to its feet.
