“It’s the perfect place for a disco – though I’m not sure if Frank Gehry was thinking of that,” said Simon Burstein of the architect’s wood plank pavilion for London’s Serpentine Gallery.

The gallery held a belated summer party Tuesday night, co-hosted by Dasha Zhukova. While the drizzly, chilly weather suggested another season altogether, it didn’t dampen guests’ spirits.

Naomi Campbell, Damien Hirst, Bianca Jagger, Dinos and Tiphaine Chapman, Mario Testino and Grayson Perry turned up to check out Gehry’s chaotic wooden construction, which will be up until Oct. 19.

“It’s staggering,” said Alice Eve of Gehry’s work, which had been lit up for the occasion with orange paper lanterns. “It’d be nice if it was a bit warmer, though,” she added, shivering in her off-the-shoulder Chanel party frock.

As co-host, Zhukova couldn’t help but let her Russian background influence the affair. Waiters circulated with vodka and rhubarb cocktails, and Sevruga caviar. Zhukova, who will open her Garage Center For Contemporary Culture in Moscow next week, handed Polaroid cameras to the artists in attendance including Antony Gormley and Chapman. Their candid snaps will go on display in her Moscow gallery.

And while Zhukova’s pal Olympia Scarry described the Moscow space as “amazing,” Zhukova remained decidedly coy about it: “It opens next week, so we’ll see,” she said.
