St. Regis Hotels & Resorts clearly knows how to appease the weather gods. Following a string of typically miserable spring days in England, the sun was blazing on the group’s marquee for the 8th St. Regis International Cup at Cowdray Park in the West Sussex countryside.
Bloody Marys and Veuve Clicquot were among the tipples at the traditional afternoon tea, where guests included Jamie Cullum, Laura Carmichael, Laura Whitmore, Daniella Helayel, Nick Moran and Camilla Al Fayed.
St. Regis ambassador and polo champ Nacho Figueras played for the Americas team, which was beaten by the England team 6 to 3.
Joanne Froggatt, who plays Anna Bates on “Downton Abbey,” was contemplating what role she’d like to play next, after filming the final series of the TV show. “Maybe a murderess,” she mused. “Or a villain. Maybe comedy. I’d be happy with anything really, as long as it’s not a maid.”
Joseph Mawle, who plays Benjen Stark in “Game of Thrones,” has been spending a lot of time in Montenegro filming for new Sky Atlantic drama “The Last Panthers,” and as a result had to make a last-minute wardrobe purchase ahead of the polo match.
“I have a lot of stuff in storage. I woke up this morning and realized that I had no decent summer shoes so I ran down to Office on Carnaby Street and bought these guys,” he said, showing off his navy suede shoes.
Marchesa designers Keren Craig and Georgina Chapman, who attended the event with their kids, agreed that the first St. Regis hotel they’d like to visit as Connoisseurs — AKA brand ambassadors — was in Bora Bora.
“It just looks beyond beautiful and luxurious,” said Craig. After that it’s Istanbul, Chapman said. “We have often been inspired by the city, but we have yet to stay at the new hotel there.”
