The first group of presenters for the 2016 Tony Awards has just been revealed. The 70th annual awards ceremony will feature appearances by Oscar nominees Cate Blanchett and Saoirse Ronan (who is also currently starring in “The Crucible” on Broadway), Tony Nominees Steve Martin and Edie Brickell, Oprah Winfrey, Carole King, Audra McDonald, Patina Miller and Nathan Lane. Additional presenters are expected to be announced soon.
This year’s nominees for best musical are “Bright Star,” “School of Rock,” “Shuffle Along,” “Waitress,” and “Hamilton” — which set a record with 16 nominations across categories, including two for best performance by an actor in a leading role in a musical.
The awards ceremony is to take place at the Beacon Theatre in New York City on June 12, and will be broadcast live on CBS. James Corden, a past Tony Award winner, will host the event.
