LOS ANGELES — “I hope all the black dresses don’t mean we’re mourning the death of the environment,” quipped Elizabeth Wiatt, co-founder with Laurie David of the Natural Resources Defense Council Action Forum. Wiatt, herself wrapped in a summery Missoni dress, joked, “We at the NRDC get advance word about heat waves.”

The annual eco-salon, held at Morton’s and sponsored by Ralph Lauren Fragrances, drew the requisite Hollywood wives — Gigi Grazer, Kelly Meyer, Heather Thomas Brittenham, Gwen McCaw, Sofie Howard and Colleen Bell, many of whom valet-parked their hybrids out front. Hollywood recruits included Mandy Moore, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Christine Lahti and Nia Vardalos, who, instead of tree-killing goodie bags, received a complimentary NRDC membership and a wooden pen.
