As a fire marshal held the masses at bay, fashionable types, including Tatiana von Furstenberg, Francesca Gregorini, Taryn Manning, Thora Birch and Alicia Silverstone, fought their way into an old bank on Hollywood Boulevard to see The Strokes at a Nintendo party last week. Once inside, however, the band kept fans waiting for more than an hour. “I might just go home,” Kelly Osbourne said.
For her part, Christina Aguilera waited it out, but freaked when the boys only put on a brief performance. “That’s it? They’re only playing five songs? I’m outta here!” she huffed.
But the fire marshal’s night was just beginning. Across town he appeared at Sergio Rossi on Rodeo Drive, to check out an overflowing cocktail party to benefit the Cedars-Sinai Research for Women’s Cancers. Early bird Calista Flockhart left quickly, slipping through the crowd on her way to dinner with “Harry” (that would be Harrison Ford). Meanwhile, host Jamie Tisch couldn’t even sneak her husband Steve past the door, though he and 100 others, including Jacqui Getty, Tracee Ellis Ross and Cordula Reyer, made it to the dinner party at Tony Duquette’s house, Dawnridge. “Can you believe this place?” asked a wide-eyed Mena Suvari. It was the evening’s mantra.
The next night, Burberry hosted a benefit for Facing Forward at its Beverly Hills store, where Christina Applegate and Minnie Driver tried on piles of plaid while chatting with Rose Marie Bravo.
And earlier in the week it was Van Cleef and Arpels that brought the chic set together, throwing open the doors of its new Rodeo Drive boutique for the likes of Marisa Tomei, China Chow and Anna Getty, who was shopping for a wedding band.
