LONDON — “She’s American, she’s my friend and she’s landed in my town — my hometown. Of course I’ve gotta throw her a party,” gushed Elizabeth Saltzman, who, with help from Harvey Nichols, feted Tory Burch last Wednesday night.
Decked out in a black sequined dress from her upcoming holiday collection, Burch was making her U.K. debut at the store. “Selling here was a no-brainer for me,” said Burch, who was flying to Morocco the next day with stepdaughter Pookie in tow for a fashion inspiration tour. “I can’t wait to see how the English girls will put the look together. They never do anything head to toe.”
For the party, held in the store’s Fifth Floor Restaurant, Saltzman corralled a mix of American expats and London fixtures alike, including Claudia Schiffer, Rena Sindi, Charlotte Stockdale, Karen Groos, Lillian von Stauffenberg, Lauren Booth, Lisa B., Melissa Odabash, Melissa Del Bono, Anya Hindmarch, Tamara Mellon, Pia Getty and Kadee Robbins.
After cocktails, the ladies tucked in for a dinner of Thai summer rolls, lamb, salad, french fries and ice cream sundaes. The Harvey Nichols folks finally had to kick everyone out at midnight, putting an end to the dancing to rock ‘n’ roll tunes from Saltzman’s iPod. But the party continued at The Lonsdale and The Cuckoo Club into the wee hours.
