WWD joined the actress-cum-singer backstage at her new cabaret show for a quick chat.
When Brooke Shields was a freshman at Princeton University, she thought she’d met the man of her dreams: George Michael. He took her shopping and to a Grace Jones concert, complimented her clothes and was a complete gentleman.
“He was hot. He was sexy. He was a singer,” Shields reminisced onstage at the Tuesday debut of her cabaret show “In My Life,” at Feinstein’s at Loews Regency. “I cried all semester [when he broke up with me].”

In her defense, Shields adds, “I didn’t know.” (We’ll give her the benefit of the doubt — no one else did then either.)
After her performance, WWD joined the actress-cum-singer, dressed in a glittery black Donna Karan dress, Jimmy Choo shoes and Alexis Bittar jewelry, backstage for a quick chat.
WWD: What was your last big fashion purchase?
Brooke Shields: Oh my God. I haven’t been shopping in so long. I went to American Eagle and bought stuff for my kids.
WWD: Do your daughters want to follow in your footsteps?
B.S.: They don’t like being told what to do, so they’ll never make it in this business. They don’t have the patience for it.
WWD: Is there any TV show you wish you could be on?
B.S.: I’d like to go back to [ABC’s] “The Middle” and play that character [Rita Glossner] again. I liked her. She was fun and trashy.
WWD: You recently found out you’re related to French royalty — King Louis XIV. Has this information changed you?
B.S.: Nothing in my life changed. I still have to take the dog out.
WWD: You’ve had plenty of in-the-buff controversies. What’s your take on the controversy over Kim Kardashian’s nude photos in W Magazine?
B.S.: Does she not know she wasn’t wearing any clothes?
