Another day, another rant. Kanye West has taken to his favorite mode of communication, Twitter, once again to express his unsolicited opinions. And this time he has lodged his complaints squarely at the fashion industry. In what seems to be spurred by a women’s suit jacket, West launched into a multitweet vitriol on Wednesday night, targeting unnamed stylists (“I also hate all the stylists that copy Hedi Slimane and give their clients blatant YSL looks thinking that it will bring a younger client”); unnamed designers (“If you wouldn’t invite me to your house then don’t invite me to your show”); working fashion journalists (“All these journalists can give their opinions well these are mine…yes I believe in my ripped homeless sweaters!!!”) and the industry at large (“The fashion world is sooooooo fake”).
But, West also had some adulation to bestow. Defending Carine Roitfeld in one tweet (“Carine is one of the very few real people in fashion…”) and yoga pants in another “I like T-shirts and women in yoga pants…”). The newly minted Balenciaga designer Demna Gvasalia also gets a shout-out, West unofficially anointing him into his clique of designer-besties (“Oh and I only came to Paris fashion to stand by my friends Olivier, Riccardo and Demna”).
He also, again, claimed that Oliver Rousteing’s fall 2016 collection for Balmain was inspired by his wife Kim Kardashian, saying “I thank Olivier for designing his collection around my wife…this is visionary as I believe Kim is our modern-day everything.” West first made the claim, bizarrely, just before the Balmain show in Paris on March 3, shouting it to a slew of reporters and photographers before taking his seat and hiding his face.
Though West refrained from his signature style of all-caps, his missives were rife with exclamation points. See the full string of tweets below.
