As the owner of Paris’ Man Ray, Thierry Klemeniuk knows a thing or two about giving a good party. And since 1989, he’s brought his own brand of after-hours fun to Cannes, hosting ultra-private soirees in a waterfront villa known as — surprise, surprise — the Man Ray Villa, a.k.a. “Villa Saf Saf,” which looks like a mini Hotel du Cap.

Over the years, the biggest stars in Cannes — Jack Nicholson, Cameron Diaz, Leonardo DiCaprio, among them — have found their way up the hill to Klemeniuk’s parties, which don’t even start until midnight, lingering until the wee hours.

Here, Klemeniuk’s own Cannes Code:

Worst party faux pas: “Getting too drunk and throwing up.

This rarely happens at my villa, but when it does, I have people driven home.”

Best way to get into his parties: “To know me.”

Best party music: “My own Man Ray CDs. We just released Volume III.”

Party crashers?: “Sometimes a little crasher is a good thing. It’s always best to mix it up.”

Paris vs. Cannes: “There’s not really a nightlife per se in Cannes the way there is in Paris. People are here to work, so that is what they do at my parties. It’s just a glamorous sort of networking. A lot of movie deals have been made over a champagne under the stars.”

What about the real stargazing?: “Celebrities feel comfortable at my place because it’s very private and they don’t have to worry about looking silly. Most of them are still jet-lagged, so they’re wide awake at 2 a.m. and ready to party.”
