While most celebrities opt for more overt engagement announcements — Instagram posts, statements from publicists and plenty of snaps of the ring — British couple Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Jason Statham took a more subtle route when sharing their upcoming nuptials. The model, 28, and the action star, 48, walked the red carpet at Sunday’s Golden Globe awards in Los Angeles, signaling their engagement with the addition of a rather sizable ring on Huntington-Whiteley’s left hand. Her rep has since confirmed the engagement.
The pair have been together since 2010 and this will be the first marriage for both of them.
Huntington-Whiteley paired her new ring with a gold-beaded gown with fringe detail by Atelier Versace. Statham was on hand at the ceremony to introduce the nominee for Best Motion Picture-Comedy or Musical, “Spy,” which he starred in with Melissa McCarthy. On stage, Statham jokingly took credit for the film, before — ever the tough guy — putting director Paul Feig in a headlock. McCarthy herself was nominated for Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture-Comedy or Musical for her role in the film.
Huntington-Whiteley and Statham have yet to comment on when they plan to wed. She continues to work on her lingerie line for Autograph, an in-house brand of Marks & Spencer, and appeared most recently in “Mad Max: Fury Road,” which was nominated for Best Motion Picture-Drama and Best Director at Sunday’s Globes. Statham is set to star in “Mechanic: Resurrection” with Jessica Alba later this year.
