LOS ANGELES — In a town where diet fads come and go more quickly than J. Lo’s beaus, The Zone and The Blood Type Diet are already ancient history. This summer, the thin folk have a whole host of freaky alternatives. Watch out, Karl. Your 3D diet’s got competition.

Who goes: Ben Affleck, Summer Phoenix, Courtney Love, Alicia Silverstone, Molly Sims and socialites in need after various bouts of excess.

The Skinny: No-frills cleansing in motel ambiance for three-, five- or eight-day retreats involving copious amounts of detox tea, colloidal minerals and food enzymes. Liquid-only intake and daily colonics ensure maximum weight loss. Says one habitue: “Some people go once every three months for maintenance. It’s a great weekend getaway.”

The Macadamia Nut Diet

Who does it: Serena Rees, the trans-Atlantic owner/designer of Agent Provocateur.

The Skinny: Nothing but macadamia nuts for five days. Nutritionists claim those who eat nothing but one food are bound to drop weight due to boredom. Rees certainly has an enviable figure, but her cholesterol count is another story.

Vitamin B Injections

Who does it: Geri Halliwell, former Spice Girl.

The Skinny: The now-svelte Spice says her winning diet includes steamed fish, chicken and vegetables, supplemented with high-dose vitamin B injections. They’re thought to boost adrenaline and the metabolic rate.

Cardiac Arrest Diet

Who does it: Those needing to drop weight before heart surgery and women who want to get down to a size 4 in a hurry.

The Skinny: This regime, which proscribes seemingly random foods like hot dogs, vanilla ice cream, beets and saltines in strictly measured quantities, is undergoing a revival. Obeying its tenants for three days can mean dropping 10 pounds, while doctors at England’s Birmingham Hospital Cardiac Unit claim patients can lose up to 40 pounds a month.

Red Meat, Lots of Red Meat

Who does it: Possessors of some of Hollywood’s most enviable bodies, like Cameron Diaz and Tea Leoni, claim to consume plenty of good old burgers and steaks.

The Skinny: “I never diet,” says Paris Hilton. “I just eat McDonald’s!”
