Raj Swim

Raj Swim enters its 50th year with a new president that is its first outside of the family that founded the swimwear company.

The Tustin, Calif.-based firm said it brought on Brenda West to serve in the post previously shared by Lisa Vogel and Alex Bhathal, who are now cochief executive officers and remain co-owners of the company.

Raj Swim designs, makes and markets both designer and private label swimwear with a portfolio of brands that includes Ella Moss, Splendid, Reef, Athena and Luxe by Lisa Vogel. The company also operates a retail business in SwimSpot, which was launched in 2009, and currently counts eight doors in the U.S.

The addition of West brings on someone with expertise in a similar line of business. She joins Raj from competitor Manhattan Beachwear, which she cofounded and served as president overseeing a portfolio of more than 55 brands. Manhattan Beachwear, of Cypress, Calif., handles design, production, manufacturing, sales and marketing of swimwear for its own labels as well as brands such as Sperry, Hobie, Trina Turk and Nanette Lepore Swim.

“We’ve respected Brenda’s achievements for many years as a competitor and couldn’t be happier that she has joined Team Raj,” Vogel said.

West’s appointment, effective immediately, also came with news that Steven Brink was hired in the dual role of chief financial officer and chief operating officer, a newly created position at the company. He absorbs some of the duties previously held by former cfo Joe Binotto. The company did not previously have a chief operating officer. Brink is the former cfo and chief operating officer of Not Your Daughter’s Jeans and also served as cfo at Quiksilver Inc.

The company called the new hires strategic and “part of the long-term organizational strategy to align the business and continue to drive growth.”

“Alex and Lisa have implemented core company values and I am proud to be a part of such a highly regarded business,” West said. “For 2017, I look forward to new brand opportunities and growth within our current brand portfolio.”
