The name of the project is a mouthful: “Calvin Klein Jeans x Mytheresa.com — Calvin Klein Jeans Rebel Edge Limited Edition,” but it’s simply an update of the brand’s classic, all-black moto-inspired denim pieces, many of which trace back to the 1991 Calvin Klein Jeans advertising campaign featuring Carré Otis. Key pieces include moto jackets, T-shirts, leggings, shorts, a bodysuit, minidress, miniskirt, boots and a bucket bag. Prices range from $88 for a bodysuit to $798 for the “Re-issue” biker jacket.
For this iteration of the look, photographer Boo George shot Malaika Firth in a black-and-white campaign. There are also four video interpretations of the campaign shoot that include found footage, computer generated design and content directed by James Cowdery.
The collection launches on Mytheresa.com on Tuesday, and as of Sept. 1, it will also be available at Calvin Klein Jeans stores and on calvinklein.com.
This isn’t the first time CK Jeans has worked with Mytheresa.com. In 2014, the companies teamed up for a women’s capsule collection called “Calvin Klein Jeans x Mytheresa.com The Re-Issue Project.” To publicize that project and harness the power of nostalgia for Calvin Klein, CK and Mytheresa.com created a campaign featuring Lottie Moss, model and half-sister of longtime Calvin Klein muse Kate Moss, who was photographed by Michael Avedon. Avedon is the grandson of Richard Avedon, who shot the 1981 Calvin Klein Jeans campaign featuring Brooke Shields, who uttered the famous tag line: “You want to know what comes between me and my Calvins? Nothing.”
Calvin Klein Jeans isn’t typically sold at luxury retailers — Macy’s is one of the label’s biggest retail partners — but CK Jeans has launched a series of elevated capsules in the past few seasons. Following the Mytheresa.com Re-issue projects, for spring 2015 there was the Calvin Klein Jeans #mycalvins Denim Series, done with Opening Ceremony and featuring Kendall Jenner. For fall 2015, Calvin Klein Jeans Black Series Limited Edition, featuring Lucky Blue Smith and Pyper America Smith, launched on Calvin Klein’s own e-commerce. And for spring 2016, there was an all-white, limited-edition capsule featuring Cameron Dallas and Stella Lucia for CK e-commerce.
